Rooted in Tradition, Shared with Love

Born and raised in Miami to Cuban parents, Emily Parr grew up immersed in the vibrant culture, flavors, and traditions of her heritage. Her grandparents, who hailed from Havana, moved to Miami in the late 1950s and early 1960s, bringing with them the rich culinary legacy of Cuba. This legacy became the foundation of Emily’s deep connection to her roots.

After graduating from Wake Forest University, Emily returned to Miami briefly before settling in New York City to pursue a career in technology. While thriving in her professional life, she began to feel the distance from her cultural heritage growing wider. Determined to preserve and share the traditions she grew up with, Emily founded Sobremesa—a passion project dedicated to bringing people together through food and fostering a sense of community.

Inspired by the Cuban tradition of *sobremesa*—the time spent lingering at the table after a meal, sharing stories and laughter—Emily now spends her weekends cooking and baking for friends and strangers alike. From pastelitos to croquetas, her creations are a love letter to her heritage and a way to keep her roots alive in the heart of NYC.

When she’s not in the kitchen, Emily can be found exploring the city with her beloved dog, Noah, or dreaming up new ways to spread the warmth and flavor of Cuban culture.
